On the platform at Dufftown Station you will find the Buffer Stop where you will be made most welcome by our staff. Come in and spend some time with us whether you come by train or just happen to be passing by. The Buffer Stop is run entirely by volunteers, but we aim to achieve a high standard of quality and service.

Our combined Kitchen and Restaurant Cars go to make up the "Buffer Stop", serving delicious light lunches of home made soups and freshly made sandwiches. We also provide a wide range of home baking including our famous Buffer Stop Scones. Try our filter coffee or partake of our speciality teas or soft drinks. We are pleased to offer vegetarian and gluten-free choices, so please ask about them when you visit.

If you prefer something a bit stronger with your meal, we do have a Restaurant Licence and can provide wine, spirits and beer if required. Our licensing hours are between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and between 12 and 2.30 p.m. on Sundays

All our food is freshly prepared on the premises, and you can enjoy it in the comfort of the restaurant car. If you are travelling on either of the trains from Keith, there is plenty of time before your train returns to partake either of lunch or in the afternoon, a cup of tea and a piece of home baking. Passengers from Dufftown won't be able to resist the tantalising aromas whilst waiting for their train!

The seating area of the restaurant car is wheelchair accessible and our staff will be on hand to provide any further assistance needed.

We are open every Saturday and Sunday from Easter to the end of September and Fridays from beginning of June to end of August. Our opening hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch being served between 12 and 3 p.m. but we reserve the right to close the Buffer Stop on occasions when there is insufficient cover to provide a full service.
