On the platform at Dufftown Station you will find the Buffer Stop where you will be made most welcome. Come in and spend some time whether you come by train or just happen to be passing by. The Buffer Stop will be run as a franchise operation from 2015

From 2015 the Buffer Stop became a franchise operation. The new operation is open for 6 days of the week, Tuesday to Sunday from 9.00am to 5.00pm for traditional home fayre, teas, coffees, cold drinks, all day breakfasts, lunches, home bakes and takeaways. These catering facilities will also be open on any Monday when the railway is operational. The buffer stop opened on Tuesday the 24th March under the new franchise operators, Angie Presly and Russell Stewart. Please note the Buffer Stop is not currently licenced to sell alcohol.

The above photo shows the interior of the Buffer Stop as it now is. Angie Presly and Russell Stewart have put in place a new system for ordering food and drink which it is hoped will ease crowding at the counter. First find a table, then note your table number. Next decide what food and drinks you require and send one of your number to the counter to order and pay for your requirements. Your food and drinks will be brought to your table as soon as it is ready. The new menu being operated now includes, in addition to hot soup, hot meals from a bacon roll to a full cooked breakfast and much more. All food is prepared on receipt of your order so please allow time for it to be made for you.

NOTE: The Buffer Stop will be open on Friday 30th October and Saturday 31st October 2015, from 6pm providing hot soup, sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee etc. These openings are primarily for passengers on the Ghost Train but are also open to the general public.

Although the Buffer Stop is under new management from the start of the season, the catering we do for our charters is being retained by KDRA and will be done in the Spirit of Dufftown under the name of KDRA Catering.
